CTSi has expertise in cybersecurity testing of avionics, both within integrated environments and standalone on the bench. One key capability is data injection onto the bus – without affecting existing bus traffic.

Being able to test within integrated environments is ideal to help understand the impact on other systems. But the key is to be unobtrusive and transparent, with low latency insertion loss. Otherwise, testing would require additional emulation capabilities, would be cloudy in the results, and would affect the normal operation of the system.

We've also developed a full suite of MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 fuzzing techniques, such as mutation and generational fuzzer algorithms, and a methodology using machine learning to analyze the results.

CTSi has previously developed and patented a hardware and software test capability that allows the tester to selectively edit data on different avionics data buses in real-time, transparent to the system under test. This product, Mudbucket, accepts data from either external or internal sources, translates the user-defined formatted data into appropriate coordinate frames and units, and modifies the data bus information as it passes through – without affecting the overall protocol latency of the avionics system.
